Entrepreneurs’ Funding Program

The Entrepreneurs’ Funding Program was launched to provide entrepreneurship training, capital and valuable expertise to both new and existing businesses founded by Guard members and their spouses. We feel this is an especially important initiative in the current economic environment.

The Entrepreneurs’ Funding Program helps Guard entrepreneurs to:

  • Grow their companies with needed funding, advisement and training
  • Create new jobs in the Commonwealth this year and in subsequent years
  • Employ Guard members, other military service members and veterans
  • Receive public recognition and media attention for their businesses

Hire Guard

Guard Support launched the new Hire Guard program in an effort to link returning Guard members to employment opportunities.

On October 1, 2010 our first Hire Guard partner, Machado Consulting, hired a previously unemployed service-disabled Mass. Guard veteran to fill their IT Help-Desk position. The Guard veteran learned of the open position through our Hire Guard program. Read more here: Unemployed veterans finding help through Guard Support’s Hire Guard program. Our Hire Guard program was also featured recently in the Boston Business Journal article entitled Employers Unite: Grants, programs like Guard Support, push doors to open doors for veterans and in the Telegram & Gazette article entitled Wanted: Jobs for Vets.

Employers considering hiring Guard members are encouraged read Top Ten Reasons to Hire Members of the National Guard and Reserve (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) and Translating Talent from Military to Civilian Jobs (Society for Human Resource Management).

Mass. Guard members seeking employment are encouraged to:

  • Contact your local Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center and make an appointment with a Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER). LVERs help Veterans with resume building, counseling, mock interviews, translation of military skills into civilian attributes/skills, and provide employment opportunities and information to their clients. Also, check out their extensive job listings. Disabled Veteran Outreach Program coordinators (DVOPs) provide the same service to disabled Veterans, but are specialized in the special requirements and barriers to employment that disabled Veterans have. There is at least one or the other or both, at each Career Center throughout the state. In addition to employment counseling, the Career Centers also offer training and education and the LVERs/DVOPs at each Career Center ensure that Veterans receive priority of service.

In light of the current economic environment and the tremendous contributions and sacrifices made by the members and families of the Massachusetts National Guard, the partners at Ascent Venture Partners decided to make a meaningful contribution in support of the efforts of Guard Support of Massachusetts.
