Hire Guard
Guard Support has launched the new Hire Guard program in an effort to link returning Guard members to employment opportunities. The following companies are actively seeking qualified Massachusetts National Guard members to apply for their open positions. We are seeking employers to become "Hire Guard" partners and make a commitment to recruit and hire returning Mass. Guardsmen for job opportunities. for details at 617-848-8868.
On October 1, 2010 our first Hire Guard partner, Machado Consulting, hired a previously unemployed service-disabled Mass. Guard veteran to fill their IT Help-Desk position. The Guard veteran learned of the open position through our Hire Guard program. (See the recent Telegram & Gazette article: Unemployed veterans finding help through Guard Support’s Hire Guard program.)

- Contact your local Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center and make an appointment with a Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER). LVERs help Veterans with resume building, counseling, mock interviews, translation of military skills into civilian attributes/skills, and provide employment opportunities and information to their clients. Disabled Veteran Outreach Program coordinators (DVOPs) provide the same service to disabled Veterans, but are specialized in the special requirements and barriers to employment that disabled Veterans have. There is at least one or the other or both, at each Career Center throughout the state. In addition to employment counseling, the Career Centers also offer training and education and the LVERs/DVOPs at each Career Center ensure that Veterans receive priority of service.

Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) at Suffolk University is a free pre-collegiate program that helps eligible U.S. military veterans develop the academic and personal skills necessary for success in a program of post-secondary education. VUB is a TRiO Program, federally funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. VUB is hiring a part-time Outreach Project Coordinator. Interested applicants can apply online.
